College Spotlight: Univ. of South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina has one of the hardest schedules in the country.
Every weekend in the SEC is a gauntlet. The same conference that produces more MLB Draft picks than any other in the country. The same conference where a .500 record gets you into the NCAA Tournament conversation. The same conference where showing up and competing at all means something.
South Carolina is 19-22 right now. This is still a program with two national championships. Still 60 MLB alumni. Still Founders Park. Still one of the most respected names in college baseball. And the 2028 recruiting class has not a single commit in it.
If you're a parent looking for help getting your athlete to the next level, I can help.

They are putting players on their board as we speak.
That is the open door. It will not stay open forever, and it is filling faster than most families realize.

THE QUICK FACTS
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Conference: SEC — the toughest baseball conference in the country
Home Field: Founders Park — consistently ranked one of the best venues in college baseball
Enrollment: About 35,000 students
Academics: Strong business, engineering, journalism, sport management, and health science programs
THE LEGACY
This program does not need a good season to be worth your attention.
2 National Championships: 2010 and 2011, back to back
11 College World Series appearances
35 NCAA Tournament appearances
22 consecutive NCAA Tournament wins, an all-time record
60 former Gamecocks have played in the Major Leagues
Jackie Bradley Jr., Steve Pearce, Christian Walker, Justin Smoak, Brian Roberts among the pros
One of only six programs in NCAA history to win back-to-back titles. The infrastructure, the facilities, the culture, and the name recognition that comes with wearing garnet and black — none of that disappears in a rebuilding year.
THE COACH
After Paul Mainieri stepped down in March, associate head coach Monte Lee took over as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Lee is no stranger to this program. He has spent two stints as an assistant at South Carolina. Before that, he was head coach at College of Charleston for seven years, making four NCAA Tournaments. Then head coach at Clemson for seven seasons with four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and an ACC Championship. He knows the SEC, he knows South Carolina, and he knows how to develop players into professionals.
The coaching transition is real. It also creates opportunity for recruits who want to be part of building something.
THE 2026 SEASON RIGHT NOW
Record: 19-22 overall
The record is not pretty. The SEC never is. But look at what they just did:
Beat No. 2 Texas 9-1
Swept Missouri on the road in SEC play
Amp Phillips: 1.42 ERA in conference play, 10 strikeouts in a shutout
Patrick Evans: team-leading .301 average, 6 home runs
Nine-game homestand underway against Davidson and Mississippi State
The momentum is real. And the class behind this team is just starting to take shape.
FOUNDERS PARK
One of the best venues in college baseball. Period.
On the banks of the Congaree River. Holds over 8,000 fans. Five luxury suites, indoor batting tunnels, a massive video scoreboard. Ranked the best D1 baseball venue in the country in 2014. The 2010 and 2011 national championship trophies are on display at the base of the center field wall, visible from the field every single game.
Playing here means something.
WHAT THE STAFF IS LOOKING FOR
Athletes who compete hard, stay coachable, and are ready for the daily grind of SEC baseball. This program does not develop players who play it safe. It develops professionals.
LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR ATHLETE.
I am not going to sugarcoat it. Getting recruited to a program like South Carolina, or finding the right program at any level that fits your athlete, does not happen by accident.
It happens because a family understood the process, moved at the right time, and put their athlete in front of the right coaches before the class filled up.
I have spent over a decade on the coaching and recruiting side of this. I know exactly what coaches look for and exactly what most families get wrong.
No pitch. No pressure. Just a real conversation about where your athlete stands and what the path forward actually looks like.
To your son's success.

About Alex
Meet your college baseball recruiting specialist: Alex Swenson.
As a high school baseball player, I navigated the college recruiting process all on my own. Despite average statistics, I landed a spot on a Division-1 baseball team Jacksonville University, where I became a 3-time team captain. Post-college, I became a D1 coach, scout, and recruiter at Georgetown University and Ole Miss, where we won an SEC championship.
After experiencing the process as both recruit and recruiter, I’ve successfully dissected the best strategies to connect with college coaches and draw offers from them.
Receive professional direction from Alex himself until your son commits to his desired school. A step-by-step action plan will be provided with strategic small-group coaching meetings every 2 weeks to ensure we are making progress. Included is a baseball networking platform that connects him to coaches, optimizes his exposure to scouts, alerts him to college camps and showcases, and MUCH MORE.
